Practicing Obedience

Practicing Obedience

Have you ever wondered why throughout history God has had to call His children back to Him. This past week, God has shared His heart through several scriptures, but I just want to highlight two of them.

Judges 2:17: Yet they would not listen to their judges but prostituted themselves to other gods and worshiped them. They quickly turned from the ways of their ancestors, who had been obedient to the Lord’s commands.

Deuteronomy 5:29: Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!

These scriptures are so full of insight into the heart of God. I don’t know about you, but I was so overwhelmed when I read the part about God desiring His people to always reverence Him and obey His commands. These scriptures help us to maintain a desire to practice obedience.

People of God if you have never thought about God's heart before please start today. Other people who do not know God may not have a heart for God, but God's own people should surely care that their Abba Father is feeling neglected, rejected, and unloved.

If you are for God, hear His heart! He is worthy to be praised and obeyed. He does not deserve to be rejected. And His heart is to bless His people! He is burdened because when His people don't obey they miss out on the blessing. They miss out on seeing and knowing Him more fully.

Lord please forgive us for grieving You with our disobedience and lack of true repentance. We humble ourselves now! We pray! We seek Your face! We turn from our wicked ways, not just to have You heal our land but because You deserve our adoration, love, and obedience! Your way is best! Have Your way Lord in us and through us. In Jesus name we pray! Amen!!!

  2. Identify what God has told you to do that you have not done (or not done consistently)
  3. Do What God Said/Says (ex. if it is to pray, fast, repent, forgive, cast cares…etc) for 3 days in a row (each day check in with God about your obedience assignment for the day).
  4. On the 4th day, assess your process/progress (asking God what He wants you to do). After the assessment and you receive direction, Day 4 becomes Day 1, and you start all over practicing obedience.
